“I am registered for the race, but can no longer run. Can I get a refund, transfer my bib to someone else, run another RSR race without paying, or run Zumbro next year without paying?”
Zumbro Endurance Run entry fees are not refundable or transferable under any circumstance. Entry fees will not be refunded or transferred if a runner chooses not to, or is unable to race, for any reason. While it is easiest for us to simply reference our widely published no refund policy, for those that (still) ask (usually one or two folks each race), we have created this resource for anyone that would like to learn more about the ‘why’ behind our policy.
If you are registered to run Zumbro and can no longer make it to the race, you do not need to notify us, no matter the reason. Once a runner is registered, we do not remove them from the roster until race day, if / when they don’t show up. We handle it in this way because it is not uncommon for a runner to notify us that they will not be running, then notify us that they will be, then notify us again they won’t be, as their plans change, running injuries heal or progress, etc. When we start making changes due to this type of communication it can lead to confusion about a runners (current) status, and can result in race number/bib order, t-shirt order, race day check-in, and timing / runner tracking mistakes as it requires the modification of the runner / timing database, the backbone behind any running race. We will know if a registrant is not running when they do not check in / pick up their race number on race day and will remove them from the database at that time. Runners will not be publicly listed as a DNS / Did Not Start in the official race results.
In order to register for Zumbro you are required to read and agree to our ‘no refund policy’ on our registration provider / UltraSignup’s website by clicking yes and entering your initials. Additionally this information is published prominently in several places on our event website which we earnestly ask you to review in its entirety prior to registering.
If you are facing financial hardship or are experiencing a major / life altering medical issue (read; disease, catastrophic accident… not simple broken bone, or a running injury) we are here to help, as this aligns in the spirit of our published ‘Registration Fee Assistance‘ policy, in addition to aligning with just being good, helpful people generally.
When you register for the Zumbro Endurance Run or any Rocksteady Running race your entry fee is put towards the expenses it takes to produce one of the best organized races anywhere. Your past positive experiences at our races, or our reputation, are likely the reason you registered in the first place. Our registration / refund polices have been thoughtfully crafted and implemented as outlined on our website(s) so we can put our entire focus into producing these outstanding experiences. We are a small organization and our entry fees are intentionally held below events with similar production standards / amenities throughout US, so they remain as accessible as possible for all. Keeping track of who is able to run, who isn’t, processing refunds, bib transfers, deferrals, maintaining associated waitlists, etc. would divert our attention from event preparation and production for all, and deprive the event of committed resources, because of the disproportionate needs of a minority of the field. While we value each individual that registers for and participates in our races, the best event outcomes are achieved when we keep our focus squarely on event production for the whole.
Most individuals who register for one of our races and can no longer run feel good about the forfeiture of their entry fee as they are; a.) happy to support us and the races we produce; past, present and future and b.) are happy to support the work that we do on trails, in the running community, and beyond.
If the reason you are planning not to attend is because you cannot run (did not train enough, have a running injury, etc.) please know that you are still wanted and welcome at the race. We would love to have you as a volunteer or spectator on race weekend.
We appreciate that you have a choice in what races you register for. For those that support us and our policies, we thank you. For those that choose not to run with us because they do not care for our policies or simply prefer other events, we understand, and thankfully there is a wide offering of events out there with a diverse range of production values and registration / refund policies.
Finally, if needed we will give you the benefit of the doubt, suspend disbelief, and accept your word that you somehow missed all of the information about our policies, and provide you with a refund of your entry fee. If you request this option you we respectfully ask that you not register to run our races in the future (again, unless we are helping you to address financial hardship that you are experiencing).
If you have additional questions about any of this information, please feel free to reach out.
